• Israeli-born, New York-based pianist Shai Maestro has formed his own trio after five sensational years as a member of the Avishai Cohen Trio, with whom he toured the world.
• His fine new trio features : Israeli drummer Ziv Ravitz (Lee Konitz, Esperanza Spalding, etc) and Peruvian Jorge Roeder on double bass (Roy Haynes, Gary Burton, etc). Maestro is still only in his mid-twenties, but has worked with many of the top New York jazz names.
• On this entrancing debut album as leader, Maestro and his trio demonstrate their mastery of piano trio interplay - swinging, rhythmic, delicate, sparse, complex. Challenging but accessible jazz, with original compositions by Maestro, integrating American standards, old Israeli songs and some classical touches.
• In 2012, the Shai Maestro Trio are touring in France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Sweden, Czech Republic, Luxemburg, Bulgaria, Poland, and Brazil. UK dates are also planned.
