• The Al Andaluz Project was formed when musicians from the Spanish/Moroccan groups Aman Aman and L'Ham de Foc met the German medieval folk specialist group, Estampie, at a concert in Munich in November 2005. Within a year they had decided to work together, and the first Al Andaluz album, "Deus Et Diabolus", was released in 2007, followed 3 years later by "Al-Maraya"
• Their music creates fresh interpretations of traditional Judeo-Sephardic, Arabic and Christian music from the Middle Ages onwards, and the band's name is inspired by the name of Al Andalus, the Moorish conquerors gave the the Iberian Peninsula.
• Al Andaluz Project are led by three outstanding charismatic singers : Mara Aranda (Spain) , Iman al Kandoussi (Morocco) and Sigrid Hausen (Germany), and backed by remarkable musicians : Michael Popp (Germany / vocals, oud, saz, tar, Fidel, Dilruba, Lafta), Aziz Samsoui (Morocco / Qanun), Ernst Schwindl (Germany / hurdy gurdy, harmonium , portative organ), Jota Martinez (Spain / hurdy gurdy, Citola) and Sascha Gotowtschikow (Germany / percussion.
• This new live CD + DVD was recorded in January 2011 at a concert in Munich, and titled "Abuab Al Andalus" (the Gate of Al Andalus) and is brimming with exquisite singing and virtuoso musicianship; and will undoubtedly be received with great acclaim by press, media and fans alike.
