ē Revered American rhythm & blues legend Ė singer, songwriter, and talented pianist Ivory Joe Hunter was billed as “The Baron of the Boogie.” His musical output ranged from R&B to blues, boogie-woogie, and country music, helping lay the groundwork for the cross-cultural musical revolution that would one day be known as rock & roll. Elvis Presley and Solomon Burke each recorded several of his songs. This essential release presents Hunterís second album, Rock & Roll. It was originally issued in 1957 by the Atlantic label and was produced by the legendary team of Jerry Wexler & Ahmet Ertegun. The LP contains selections of previous Atlantic singles, taped between 1954 and 1956 (this was the period in which Hunter enjoyed the greatest pop success). At times this material is reminiscent of Nat King Cole going rock & roll and R&B. Thereís also a prominent country tinge to some of Joe Hunterís ballads, such as “Since I Met You Baby”. In addition to the original long play, this remastered collectorís CD contains 12 bonus tracks, consisting of hard-to-find sides. Some of these recordings were released during the same period while others date back to 1950.
