• The South Iceland Chamber Choir conductor Hilmar Örn Agnarsson

• Come Creator is The South Iceland Chamber Choir’s fifth album. The choir has previously released three albums of Icelandic music. Ég byrja reisu mín (Smekkleysa, 2000) is an album of Icelandic religious music from the last 1000 years. Til Máríu (Smekkleysa, 2005) is religious music by composer Gunnar Reynir Sveinsson. The choir then self-released Á hugarhimni mínum (2006) with music by folk composer Guðmundur Gottskálksson. The choir’s fourth album, Iepo Oneipo/Heilagur draumur, compositions by the English composer Sir John Tavener, was released by Smekkleysa in 2010. Most of the compositions on this album were written for the choir and were premiered at Reykjavik’s Dark Music Days Festival in 2012. For this project, which translates as “Come Creator”, composers were invited to work with the choir and were given free reign throughout the process; participating in rehearsals (trying the compositions on, so to speak) following through to concert performances, and then from the concert hall into the studio, with the aim of achieving the right mood and style. That is probably the most innovative aspect of this music and the making of this album.
