World première recordings of two complete ballet scores by Georges Auric – today more famous as a film composer (of such 1950s classics as ‘Moulin Rouge’ and ‘Passport to Pimlico’) but an original member of ‘Les Six’, the young French composers who gathered around the figure of Jean Cocteau in between-the-wars Paris. Cocteau wrote the scenario and designed ‘Phèdre’, which was danced to choreography by Serge Lifar, but Auric’s music is well worth reviving on its own. Another notable ‘first’ for TIMPANI.
