PREVIOUSLY UNISSUED IN ANY FORMAT: This double album presents, for the first time, a highly rewarding, historically important, club set featuring the John Coltrane quartet - pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Jimmy Garrison and Roy Haynes on drums - recorded at the Showboat, Philidelphia on June 17th 1963.
It was one of the rare occasions in which Haynes sat in with the Coltrane Quartet and the program includes tunes seldom recorded by Coltrane, such as Tadd Dameron's "Good Bait" and the Arlen-Mercer ballad "Out Of This World", as well as an 18 min. version of Mr.P.C. (originally on the ‘Giant Steps’ album) and 35 min version of Impressions - both Trane compostions - as well as a 12 min. rendition of Mongo Santamaria’s Afro Blue.
