In 1956 Red Garland was one of the pianists of the moment. Having previously been hired by Coleman Hawkins, Ben Webster and Lester Young he was now a member of the first great Miles Davis Quintet. He formed the trio with a fellow member of this band, bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Art Taylor and the core of this CD is their LP A Garland of Red . In addition to tracks from a session later in the year there is a bonus version of Ahmad’s Blues recorded during Miles Davis’ Prestige studio dates with Philly Joe Jones on drums.
