Frøy Aagre is one of very few female saxophonists and composers in Norway. Despite her young age she has developed a highly individual style, on tenor & soprano, and her compositions are both imaginative and original. Frøy Aagre and her band Offbeat received excellent reviews for this debut album Katalyze, with critics comparing her with saxophone legends such as Jan Garbarek, Wayne Shorter and also David Liebman, with whom she studied in New York. She also studied in London for a time. The band plays contemporary melodic jazz, all composed & arranged by Frøy - characterized by intriguing melodies and interplay, unexpected rhythmic ideas and rich harmonic textures. The element of surprise is always there in Aagres´ music. Her band Offbeat consists of three very talented musicians on the Norwegian jazz scene: Andreas Ulvo (piano), Audun Ellingsen (bass) and Freddy Wike (drums).
This album was recorded in 2004, but is only now receiving a UK release. She has a second Aim album Countryside finished, and this will be released in a few months.
