The magical sound of the flute was discovered by mankind a very long time ago. It appeared on the European scene fairly early, both in folk culture and in the courts. The side-blown flute (also known as transverse flute), however, gained in importance over the recorder-style instrument very slowly, starting from the Baroque period. The spectacular career of this instrument in 19th-century solo and orchestral music, which can be described as the flute craze of the time, was preceded by decades of work on its technical perfection, this release certainly belongs in this category. The CD ends with a surprise – a little known work by Chopin in an arrangement for flute and piano.
